How was your weekend everyone? Ours was busy but great.
Recently I was reading Somerset Studio and came across the artwork of
Randel Plowman.
Did you all see this article? He creates a collage a day and posts them on his blog. His archives on his blog go back to 2006! I really felt inspired by Randel. He said "The more I thought about making art, the less I did it. I decided to stop thinking and start making." I felt like this was a huge message for me.

Day 1-assorted papers and colored pencil |
So I decided the same thing for myself. Stop thinking, start making. It was a great decision. Just getting there and starting AND saying something is done that day, that is huge for me. So I am on day 9 and I did miss a day. That is o.k. for me. I can't really say how long I will do this. I started with collage using matte medium, then I began stitching my pieces. I LOVE doing that. Then I started painting. It of course comes with challenges but so far I am excited.

I am really loving the progression, the trying things out. I really encourage anyone to give it a try. You can do anything for a week right? And I am sure you won't want to stop. Let me know if you decide to start.

Yes, i saw that article too and this is such a wonderful challenge you are starting here!! I am loving all your gorgeous collages and the colors are amazingly inspiring! Have a lovely merry happy week ahead and love to you!
dana, i love your new pieces. there is something so lovely, simple and inviting about your work. and your flowers make me happy! good for you on creating every day. i have been working on making some sort of paper every day.

Oh my! Those collages are beautiful. I enjoyed them very much even through the computer screen. I am going through the same process now-trying to be creative everyday and to create everyday. It's a bit of a beast with four kids (at least for me) but I always feel better when I do. I am sure I am also better to be around when I have. Right now I am reading the Artist's Way which is amazingly helpful.
Thanks for sharing your work and your thoughts on making!
Peace, Angela
I did see the article and was inspired myself as im trying to learn more about printmaking so thought id challenge myself, but yep that will have to wait until after the color challenge! :-) Dana, these collages are gorgeous, you have such a great eye for colors and shapes and its such a delight to look at your work. Cant wait to see it in person soon. xxx
What a greate challenge! I love seeing that progression...how on days 5,6,7 you started sewing on them, then you switched to the flower painting, and then sewed the flowers! I really enjoy seeing the process. Those last sewn flower pieces are AMAZING, as is that yellow one :)
I totally agree with the thinking/making statement...so completely and utterly true! I love your work, Dana! You are going to start selling this somewhere, right????

Hi Dana, as you know I've been a big fan of your collages since I found them here on your blog and it's wonderful to see that you've really got going with them!
Sometimes I think about how much brutal truth there is to Nike's slogan: "Just Do It". And yet it's so human to get stuck - and not do the things we want to do the most...
It's a joy to see you building up a momentum, just doing it!
Hi Dana, I also liked the article on Randel Plowman, and I love it that you're now creating daily collages!! I love your sense of colour and style and its great to see you building a body of work! The quote reminds me of something i read in the Artist's way. You don't create using willpower, but by having fun and playing with art, and that's the feeling I get when I look at your collages :) Wini.
PS: I LOVE the floral pieces! :)
I am so stuck...need to do this to set my creative self free...thank you!
