The Artistic Mother

Shona Cole is an artist and mom to five. She wrote the new book The Artistic Mother : A Practical Guide to Fitting Creativity into Your Busy Life. And if you are a mom you know how hard this can be. I haven't read the book yet but it has gotten great reviews on Amazon. It is on my wish list!

Here is a link to Shona's beautiful blog, An Artful Life. She is giving away a copy so go check it out! And here is a link to where her book can be purchased.

Oh, yes! It can be challenging to have any kind of balance. I tend to feel that guilt even if I am doing things I don't even want to do, such as housework. I try to involve them with everything but still there are things they can't obviously do.

It gets so much better as they get older and more independent. Right now my guys will entertain eachother or themselves for hours. I'm always close by to help out when needed.

Thanks for more book reading suggesttions. I bet your wish list is as big as mine!

Hey, thanks for the shout out! I love grassroots action :)

balance is key, I am constantly searching for that balance. I often have to remind myself to practice what I wrote in the book! It's tough, but I can always talk myself back on track. Time, focus and lists are a mom's best friend! Until that blessed time that Regina talks of... older kids that leave you space for yourself. that sounds like a good future to look forward to. In the meantime we gotta keep our art skills honed!

thanks for the idea on writing down what your kids are doing on their brithdays, it makes sense to to it then when you are focusing so much on that one child. we just had my Lily's 8th birthday, it was so fun... I think I will do a list for her to keep til later.

That looks like a great book! I was interested to see how hands-on and practical it seems to be in the description! This for example "A weekly action plan to help you make the best use of your time" is a great idea! I find my precious time-to-myself slipping away and have to make an effort to focus on what I really want to do with that time, so I can see how this might be really helpful.
