GYPO Painting: Week 1

This is my week 1 painting for GYPO. 8x8 acrylic on canvas. The inspiration for the piece Gee's Bend Quilts.

I have to tell you this was pure bliss for me.

1) I LOVE the Gee's Bend Quilts. They have been in my inspiration file for years!
2) I got to just work with COLOR! LOVE!

So needless to say I am REALLY enjoying the class. So much I am going to make some more similar paintings on the kraft paper (above) that I applied clear gesso to.

It's gorgeous. I'm loving the class too. It's so much fun to paint just for the heck of it, and to play around with different ideas. Like you, I think I'll be doing some more paintings based on this week's inspiration.

I wonder what we'll get up to next week.

Sounds perfect - so good just to play! How many weeks do you have to go? I have been doing lots of teaching and no making and I am missing it :(

it looks like so much fun! i love how you are always experimenting with new techniques and looks dana. always brings me joy to see what you are working on. there is a purity in your work that i really appreciate. i feel like you ask the hard questions and i think it is really going to pay off for you in your art. i don't know if that makes sense?

oh boy. I have a feeling this class is giong to propel you into some fascinating new directions. Yay for GYPO! and the quilts of GB? some of the most influential works of art for me. After I saw them in person. I began to think very differently about art, and the stories behind pieces, and what makes them valuable and why.
