COLOR STORY: Pepper Berry, Silver, Ivory, Teal

I had all of this around and it all struck me as beautiful. I LOVE this palette for the holidays.

My doily is curling up but apparently I need to steam iron it and it should be fine. I really hope so. Have a great weekend everyone!

COLOR STORY: LIME, BLUEBERRY,SEAGLASS

A long while back I started showing color stories here. I haven't done this in a LONG time. But since color is something that fuels my creative juices I decided from time to time I would post a color story or two. This morning as I was getting my kids their breakfast I noticed our blueberries that we picked yesterday in their beautiful paper container sitting next to my crocheted dishcloth made by my mom. I thought the colors looked great together. I uploaded to picnik ( love that site) and added some great fonts. So this is what was inspiring me on this sweltering summer morning.

In other news... I have been working ALOT on my facebook page. Please come say hi if you haven't already. I have been spending SO much time on line. Staying up way too late. Trying to figure it all out. I feel a break is coming up soon.

Please come back on Thrusday.... I have a brand new Art Biz Mama interview to share!!  I am so glad you have all been enjoying these as much as I have.

dana

Color Stories: Holiday 2009

Hello. I hope you all had a great week. I have trying to finish up the custom wreaths and packing up another one headed for New Zealand. This color story is the one I used for the custom wreaths. It is really making me happy to see these colors. I believe I am going to do my ornaments for the swap in these colors. I will be back soon to share more.
Peace

Color Story-Fall

Fall... I usually tend to be more of spring kind of girl but amidst all the beauty this season is bringing I may be becoming more partial to fall. The sky has been so clear and the leaves so vivid. I have been collecting and noticing so much. The steel blue is there for the beautiful hue the mountain takes sometimes out my window. I hope when these days pass I will look back at the story and remember.

Color Stories: Linen+ Cocoa +Lime+ Pink+ Stone+ Lemon

A new color story today. I hope your weekend was great!

Ours was great. I just got the new Cloth, Paper, Scissors magazine. Love it! I am really enjoying the articles by Melanie Testa. Could be because we both attended the same school and studied with the same professors. But her journals are lovely and I now I am thinking of starting one in the new year. So many plans!

With fall just around the corner I keep thinking about yarn. I don't knit but I think I may start an embroidery. I know it isn't yarn but it is needle work. I did one last year and it is a bit meditative. I am also trying to decide on a way to make an advent calendar for my kids. It may take me until November to decide. There are many options out there and some are a bit time consuming. I do want it to be something we will use again but I also don't have tons of time to work on it. Will decide soon.

Color Stories: Pink + Green

This color story just came about by playing with color. Certainly it isn't anything ground breaking but I was testing out colors on one paper for another color story and actually I liked how these colors were working. I started putting my color stories into a sketch book. Either taping ones in or painting them right in the book.

Today I am cutting paper to do some paintings. I started drawing last night and will begin painting.

Tomorrow I am going to a friends baby shower and I can't wait. It is her first baby and I haven't seen her in a long time so I am excited to see her belly.

I have so many other color stories in me. I hope I can get them down in time.

Have a great weekend. And thank you to the few new followers to my blog. It is great to have you!

Color Stories: Blue Charcoal Spice Sage Apple Raffia

I have a new color story today.. this one I didn't set out to working on.. I started in a different direction ( one I still will go back to) but ended here. Fall inspired for sure. Just a short month left of summer and I don't know if it is because this has been a cool summer here in NY or what but I feel a bit excited for fall to come. So I used old lace, a piece of wool, colors that were already painted, a piece of a security envelope and some embroidery floss. These are so fun to make. I love working with color. I could do it all day. The possibilities are endless and it is so exciting to see what will happen to one color when you put another color next to it. I hope you have a great weekend!

Giveaway winner and Color Story

Since I only had one entry for the giveaway it was an easy contest ha ha. Dana from Leililaloo http://leililaloo.blogspot.com/ (who is a fabulous artist by the way) won the CREATE collage. Congrats Dana! And thanks for stopping and commenting. It means alot!

Also, I have a new Color Story today. I love color! It really makes me happy. This is one that is inspired by all the wonderful colors of the flowers and crittersof summer. Evergreen, lime, celadon, magenta, and red. ( In case you are wondering I am just making these little color stories in my small index card book. You could use anything really. Just a record of interesting and inspiring colors.)
I am still immersed in summer but fall is slowly creeping its way into my psyche. I am going to start working on some fall wreaths and I am going to do some designs for this http://craneinsider.blogspot.com/2009/07/crane-seeks-artists-for-new-studio_08.html. Wish me luck.

I hope you are having a great weekend!!

Color Stories: Neutral and Brights

This is a painting done by Felix Vallotton. View of a Paris Street, 1895. Gouache on cardboard.
Felix was one of the Nabis.

You can learn more about them if you google them but basically they were a group of young radical painters who formed an artistic brotherhood in Paris in 1889.

Their common aim was to make art part of everyday life. LOVE THAT!!

I love this particular painting for not only the subject matter but the COLOR as well. Love the neutrals mixed with the pops of bright color. Lovely work.

I am done with my wreath. Not sure if I like it yet. I will hopefully get to take some pics tomorrow if the weather improves any.

Patterns and Color Stories: Apples (Green/Pink)

Apples, originally uploaded by dana.barbieri.

Somehow between "Mommy, my blankie" and a teething toddler I managed to have a dream last night and it included apples. I was woken up again at 4:30 a.m. and had to draw in my sketch book. After my coffee of course.
I really like the pink green combo on the brown paper.
Colored Pencils on kraft paper.

Color Stories: Blue Green

Color Stories: Blue Green, originally uploaded by dana.barbieri.

So I am planning to have a weekly or so Color Story here. It may be a quick watercolor study, or a collage or a photo. I love color and finding/creating new combos. Please check back again for another Color Story and it would be great to see some of your favorite color combos.
